Softly flavored, buttery croissants lend themselves easily to salty and sweet interpretations, making them perfect for breakfast. Those who like a savory breakfast can combine croissants with eggs, ham, vegetables and cheese. Those who want sweeter croissants can add various jams, jams or other sweet spices. Vaida Budriene, communications manager of the “Iki” shopping chain, says that fresh croissants often find their way into customers’ daily baskets.
“We are the first to offer croissants in our network in Lithuania. We notice that customers like and appreciate these baked goods. That is why we have prepared a wide range of them: from traditional to croissants with different fillings: from caramel, chocolate to almond and apple. In addition, for the convenience of customers who value freshness, we offer them in stores. We cook several times a day,” V. Budriene says.
A very simple combination
Thierry Lavray, pastry chef of the Iki chain, says croissants are a favorite breakfast dish around the world. And it is very easy to make different interpretations with this ingredient.
“Croissants are attractive because of their very simple composition, because the main ingredients of a classic croissant are only 8: butter, flour, yeast, milk, water, sugar, salt and eggs.” Well, the opportunity to enjoy them with sweet and salty spices greatly expands the circle of fans of these French dishes,” says T. Lavray.
When choosing quality croissants, you should pay attention to several things. It should not be crispy and golden, but should not leave a greasy feeling on the palate. And when the butter horn opens, there should be many small holes that resemble a honeycomb, hiding inside.
“Croissants are a versatile pastry, because they can be enjoyed alone and seasoned with various jams, ham, cheese, salmon or avocado. And the most fun thing is that you can always experiment and fill any croissants your heart desires. If you want to make an even more special breakfast, you can make baked croissants ” said T. Louvre advises.
Don’t be afraid to improve
Baked croissants are very easy to make. You have to decide whether you want a savory or sweet taste. For example, baked savory croissants require ham, cheese, if you like – you can cook them with beaten eggs or béchamel sauce. You cut the croissants in half lengthwise, put them in a deep baking dish, put sliced ham, vegetables on the croissants, add cheese and cover everything with poached eggs or béchamel sauce and bake in the oven.
If you want to serve homemade condiments with croissants for breakfast, you can usually make nut cream. You only need 3 ingredients to make it: hazelnuts, cocoa powder and brown sugar. Fry the hazelnuts in a pan over low heat, stirring constantly. The seeds are quite charred when they start to peel from the nut. Add the roasted nuts and cocoa to an electric blender and blend until the mass begins to resemble cream. Add sugar and continue beating until the cream is smooth. T. Lauvray recommends keeping the chocolate cream in the refrigerator. Confectioner “Iki” shares some more recipes with perfect croissants for breakfast.
